Rhonda Lynn Allen, M.D.

Rhonda Lynn Allen, M.D., is the corporate medical director of Baltimore Cares, Inc. monitoring the delivery of care throughout all programs to ensure cutting-edge evidence-based addiction and psychiatric treatment services to adults and adolescents. She serves as Clinical Assistant Professor for the Department of Psychiatry School of Medicine for the University of Maryland Medical Systems. Licensed in the State of Maryland and Washington, D.C. as a physician, Board Certified in the field of addiction and general psychiatry by the American Board of Psychiatry and Neurology with two years Fellowship Training in Addiction Psychiatry at the University of Maryland Medical Systems. She’s trained and certified by the American Academy of Addiction Psychiatry to treat opioid dependence. She has worked in the field of psychiatry and addiction medicine since 2001 and continues to serve patients and their families in a caring and compassionate manner during their time of need.

Allen is a member of the American Psychiatric Association and the American Society of Addiction Medicine. Dr. Allen was honored by her professional peers at the University of Maryland Medical System as Medical Student Teacher of the year 3 consecutive years from 1997 to 1999. Dr. Allen served on the Spectrum Publications Committee, the Newsletter of the American Psychiatric Association Minority Fellowships addressing treatment services for the care of pregnant and newly delivered women addicts; written research papers for the Maryland Horseman’s Association chronicling addiction treatment trends in the horseracing industry and identified early detection criteria for Impaired Physicians. She developed and implemented Behavioral Emergency Service Team training for the Baltimore City Police Department preparing police officers to assist citizens in psychiatric distress when encountered during patrol duty.

 

Allen is a graduate of Howard University, awarded a Bachelor of Science Degree in Zoology in 1984, awarded the degree of Doctor of Medicine from the University of Toledo, formerly Medical College of Ohio at Toledo in 1994 and continued her postgraduate education and training at George Washington University and the University of Maryland Medical System.
